A bit about the role
The Conservation Team manage a variety of natural areas within Wyndham including river and creek corridors, wetlands, saltmarsh, coastal reserves, and grasslands. We are passionate about enhancing ecological values while delivering an exceptional community experience within our conservation reserves.
What you’ll do
- Protect, enhance and maintain Wyndham’s conservation reserves
- Ecological restoration works including weed control, revegetation and prescribed burning
- Site maintenance works including pruning, hedging, signage, fencing and litter collection
- Operate and maintain equipment such as spray rigs, brush cutters, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, mowers and augers
- Work outdoors in a range of environments and conditions
- Assist and work alongside community organisations
- Represent Wyndham City Council in accordance with our organisational values
What you’ll bring
- A qualification in conservation land management or related discipline with relevant experience; or substantial relevant experience
- Knowledge of local indigenous flora and fauna, and strong weed identification skills
- Previous experience working in a team environment
- Current Victorian Drivers Licence
- A positive, flexible attitude and the ability to adapt to change
- The capacity to work both in the public eye as well as remote locations
Desirable skills / experience:
- Chem cert (or equivalent) and experience using herbicides
- Chainsaw accreditation
- First aid & Working with Children Check
- MR accreditation and experience with towing and driving on rough terrain
- Experience in prescribed burning
