Location: This role is required to work across multiple locations throughout the Wyndham municipality, with potential for a hybrid arrangement.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a small team, to promote and extend the Wyndham City Library service from the Pop Up Library Van, to outlying and targeted areas of Wyndham. Reporting to the Coordinator Library Programs and working as part of the Library Programs unit, this role is responsible for leading the Library Outreach team to deliver high quality library services at locations some distance from a physical library. This outreach service includes delivery of activities for children and adults to engage them in lifelong learning, improve literacy skills and to build social connections and improve wellbeing. Membership sign-up and borrowing from the van are also a key part of the service. As well as delivering regular morning programs, the van attends major festivals and significant events. Some weekend and evening work will be required on an ad hoc basis, including a regular Saturday morning shift every 6 weeks at a Library location.
You will work with the team to:
- identify the needs and interests of the community in specific areas
- develop and enhance partnerships with internal and external stakeholders that encourage and promote library participation
- plan and deliver a range of activities to the Wyndham community, with a focus on isolated or areas at some distance from a physical library
- Key duties of the role are:
- leading the Library Outreach Team to deliver high quality library outreach programs and services
- overseeing library outreach programs and services to ensure they align with established objectives and budgets
- planning, organising, and managing your own work as well as delegating tasks to team members
- overseeing the occupational health and safety of those working on the van and the maintenance and any upgrades of the van
- working with colleagues to oversee the staff roster and Van recruitment
- managing the Van budget within time and budget constraints
Our ideal candidate will be an experienced leader who has a collaborative approach, excellent communication and organisational skills and a good understanding of library programs and services. They will have a positive and flexible outlook.
What your day may look like:
- Liaise with rostering officer to ensure any gaps are filled
- Attend Van program at community centre
- Drive to library to attend team meeting
- Provide guidance and support to Band 5 Outreach Librarian or Band 4 Library Programs and Support Officer around new outreach initiatives
- Plan for participation in an upcoming festival
- Complete administration tasks such as approving leave, purchasing resources
- Prepare report on activities over the previous quarter
What you will bring:
- Degree or Graduate Diploma in Information Management or equivalent with some relevant experience or lesser formal qualifications and substantial relevant experience
- Experience working with and engaging with people from diverse social, cultural and linguistic backgrounds
- Demonstrated experience leading staff to achieve positive outcomes
- Demonstrated experience partnering with internal and external departments/stakeholders
- Up-to-date knowledge of library trends regarding the delivery of programs and services
- High level administrative and organisational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with others and manage difficult situations effectively
