About the role
Reporting to the team leader, the Senior Town Planner is a key team member integral in maintaining efficient and prompt customer service from the Established Area team. 

You will be involved with applicants from pre-application, right through to issuing planning permits. Some day-to-day responsibilities will include approving or refusing planning applications, answering in-bound calls into the department, assisting with general inquiries and facilitating face to face meetings with customers whilst adhering to the specified standards to meet the agreed productivity and quality of service.

You will be handling applications within multiple Precinct Structure Plans, infill development, identified activity centres, industrial and rural areas. 


What your day will look like
 

  • Efficiently processing planning applications
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Preparing high-quality written reports, including those for Council meetings
  • Conducting thorough and effective research to support planning decisions
  • Delivering exceptional customer service with a solutions-focused approach
  • Demonstrating excellent communication and presentation skills, including representing Council at VCAT when required
  • Implementing and administering statutory planning responsibilities in accordance with the Wyndham Planning Scheme (and any successors), the Planning and Environment Act, Subdivision Act, and other relevant legislation
  • Contributing to the review and improvement of statutory planning procedures to enhance the overall efficiency of the Unit

 

What you will bring

  • A tertiary qualification in Town Planning or other related discipline
  • Experience in local government (statutory planning) or other political environments will be highly regarded
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation including the Planning and Environment Act, Subdivision Act and other applicable legislation
  • Flexibility in permit application processing – this is not a one size fits all process
  • A strong desire to be involved in working in a customer focused environment with a high level of service provision
  • Current Victorian driver’s licence
  • A continuous improvement mindset with a positive, proactive, and flexible attitude
