About the role
We are entering an exciting period of change within the Facilities, Fleet & Depot Stores department, as we continue to develop to meet the strategic and operational needs of our growing municipality. This transformation is about people, purpose, and progress, and we are recruiting a diverse range of roles to the department—building a team that is passionate about service excellence, operational uplift, and meaningful change.
We’re looking for individuals who are not only skilled in their field, but who thrive in collaborative environments and are motivated by the opportunity to make a real and positive impact.
Wyndham City Council is seeking a proactive and experienced Area Leader Planned Maintenance who will play a critical role in delivering high-quality, cost-effective, and compliant planned maintenance services across Wyndham City Council’s extensive portfolio of facilities.
Reporting to the Coordinator Facilities Maintenance Services and working in close collaboration with the Reactive Maintenance team, you will manage external contractors working through bundled and direct service contracts to ensure that all planned maintenance activities are delivered efficiently, safely, and in line with Council’s strategic asset management objectives.
This role is central to supporting key organisational priorities, including financial sustainability, long-term integrated planning, and enhanced organisational capability through strong contractor performance, robust compliance oversight, and transparent cost management.
This is a full-time permanent leadership position that will be required to work across multiple locations and travel within the Wyndham Municipality to undertake Council business, as required.
What your day will look like
· Lead and coordinate the full lifecycle of planned maintenance programs delivered via external contractors.
· Supervise and support the Planned Maintenance Officer, providing technical guidance and fostering their development.
· Act as the key liaison for all planned maintenance contractors, managing relationships and ensuring statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
· Ensure all planned maintenance activities comply with relevant legislation, codes, and safety regulations.
· Monitor and audit contractor works, maintaining accurate records and system entries to meet compliance requirements.
· Support financial sustainability goals by managing budgets, forecasting, and controlling contract costs using TechnologyOne.
What you will bring
· A relevant tertiary qualification in Facilities Management, Asset Management, or Building Services, or lesser formal qualification with extensive industry experience (10+ years) in a similar role.
· Strong experience coordinating planned maintenance programs and managing contractors in compliance-driven environments.
· In-depth knowledge of relevant Victorian building legislation, statutory and regulatory requirements including obligations of owner and leaser, safety regulations, and compliance frameworks
· Demonstrated ability to manage service contracts, interpret contract terms, and resolve performance issues diplomatically.
· Proficiency in TechnologyOne or similar enterprise systems for managing work orders, budgets, and compliance documentation.
· Proven leadership capability, with experience developing team members and managing operational workflows.
· Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence outcomes and collaborate across teams.
· Strong organisational and decision-making skills with the ability to balance competing priorities and maintain service delivery.
· A current Victorian Driver’s Licence, Construction Induction (White Card), and Working with Children Check.
If you progress past the interview stage, you may be required to complete pre-employment screening, which may include police checks, a medical, qualification verification, and an Australian work rights check.
